Cover squareJoe Bouche-minband-min

The Plough is thrilled to welcome Bouche, the deeply emotive and beguilingly timeless music of double bass player and singer Rebekah Bouche, accompanied by trumpet, flugelhorn and electric guitar.

Their songs are a blue-jazz hymnal of long lost melodies and new-found grooves, the honesty and rawness of the blues, with salutes to early jazz. For a little preview of the evening, click here. This intimate performance is part of their album launch tour, and takes place upstairs in The Rhee Gallery. Download the poster/flyer here.

Tickets are available online from  wgt_inline_com_transparent_rgb_2000  or direct from The Plough.

The band’s debut album ‘So Long Solemn’ is released 15th April on You What Now Records. Pre-order here.

Thursday’s Band is what happens when you combine locked down acoustic guitars with free-flowing fiddle, viola and mandolin – then top it all off with tight three-part harmony.

Sometimes the songs sound British, sometimes North American; sometimes they’re new, sometimes they’re not; sometimes they tell tall tales from the distant past, sometimes they’re poignant and personal; and sometimes they break out into wistful airs and joyful, exuberant tunes… Support will be from Mandolin Stage regular, singer-songwriter Chris Fox. Our October/November exhibition, Moments, weaves cafe culture with natural form, observation with emotional response. Cambridge based artist Mo DeRome and Lancashire based Heather Burns come together at The Plough with their contrasting, yet harmonious paintings.

Mo’s beautifully observed, small water colours and Heather’s large, abstract responses to natural forms in a mixture of media, sit happily side by side, like the good friends these painters are.

p1040352 sacred-objects-posterbutterflyworld_web

Eleanor & Jane are young, established, professional print makers, who have both exhibited internationally and have taken part in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.

Eleanor’s work is inspired by detailed drawings of plants and other organic forms, which are then morphed to create a novel object that has a life of it’s own.

Of her work, Jane explains ” It is important to me that there are connections in my work. These might be words, the visual, or theoretical. The work evolves from these chance encounters”

LIVE MUSIC – “SJ Mortimer”

Since recording her debut solo album ‘Nashville Sessions’ in 2014 in Tennessee; SJ (nicknamed “Stevie Ray Nicks”) has been gigging frequently across the UK and even performed in Europe and China. Among SJ’s influences are The Eagles, Coldplay, Imogen Heap, KT Tunstall, Beyonce, Alison Krauss and Union Station, and Sheryl Crowe.
Through the Cambridge live music scene she has developed her own backing band – The Flying Pigs! With their fresh new country roots sound, this soulful band are quickly taking Cambridge by storm!  The band played Cambridge Folk Festival and Secret Garden Party Summer 2016, and have been featured on BBC Introducing. Their debut EP ‘Fireball’ is out now on iTunes & Spotify. Tonight’s gig is an intimate acoustic performance. For a little taster, take at look at last week’s Bridge Session HERE.

LIVE MUSIC – Folk@ThePlough presents.. “The Sheri Kershaw Band”

Sheri returns to The Mandolin Stage with her talented band, Martyn Hewitt on guitar and Fergie Fulton on double bass.
Probably best known for her time as wife and fellow member of the Nik Kershaw band that toured extensively and achieved huge chart success, the inevitable association is unfair to Sheri, because it fails to recognise the prodigious talent this lady possesses in her own right. Her recent work showcases her fantastic song writing and vocal skills and a typical set includes soulful ballads written straight from the heart, laced with numbers with almost a West Coast American feel, right through to more hard edged blues numbers, all delivered by three incredibly talented musicians.
