Throughout the last few years, Shepreth has unfortunately lost most of its community facilities. The village no longer has a school, a shop, a post office or indeed a pub on the western side of the A10 bypass, in the centre of the village. Our friends at Teacake have been flying the flag for village community life alone for some time, and continue to provide a valuable facility, much-loved by both locals and visitors to Shepreth. We aim to complement their efforts and become an intrinsic part of village life.

TeddyWe see The Plough as a hub for our community in many ways. The spaces referred to throughout this website, particularly those on the first floor, are designed to be as flexible as possible. We anticipate making rooms available to village groups for meetings, events, and gatherings, as well as to local businesses. The outside spaces in particular will be used for youth initiatives involving art, music, history, and sport, as well as some educational events.

We would like to lead the re-establishment of a village cricket team and other sports clubs, and perhaps also host music and dance related clubs or associations. How about the Shepreth Ukulele Orchestra or Harmonica Group? Once established, the “House Of Blue Lights” multi-space could be used for both private and public events. Family celebrations, birthday parties, exercise classes, workshops etc., could all take place here.

Business Involvement

business2A large and vibrant business community exists within Shepreth and the surrounding villages, and we plan to provide resources and facilities useful to all. Our meeting areas will be equipped with high quality IT equipment enabling the rooms to be used for meetings, presentations, interviews and consultations. Combined with our kitchen, we can BBreakfastprovide business breakfasts, working lunches, and private dining to business customers, and also offer the perfect place to relax with a drink afterwards. Shepreth railway station also provides opportunities for visitors to local businesses to travel easily, and to take advantage of the recreational facilities available at The Plough when the business is done.
